Photo: The Apollo 11 splashdown took
place on July 24, 1969, at 12:50 p.m. EST in the Pacific Ocean.
It came down about 812 nautical miles southwest of Hawaii and only
12 nautical miles from the U.S.S. Hornet (the prime recovery vessel
for the historic Apollo 11 lunar landing mission). The duration
of the first lunar landing mission was 8 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes.
