"I am still learning." -- Michelangelo

Inspiring children and adults is a part of the IMA Hero™ Collection's mission.

We've been asked the question many times, "What is a hero?" And our answer is always the same - "A hero can be anyone. Heroes come in different shapes and sizes. A hero can be a relative, teacher, coach, or friend. It is up to each person to choose their own heroes."

Although the First Series in the IMA Hero™ Collection is made up of well known people, these teddy bears have jump started conversations of heroes in our world.

Here are a few Hero Essays from a Second Grade Class:

My hero is my friend because she always cheers me up when I am sad and whenever I see her she always gives me hugs. She is my hero because when I am lonely she always plays with me and she doesn't boss me around and is not mean to me.

My friend is my hero. He helped me get the "yard duty" when I got hurt.

My hero is my mom because she would save my life.

My hero is my dad because he plays with me when there's no one to play with and he taught me how to ride a bike.

My hero is Mrs. Smith. Last April, I fell on the wet bars when the morning bell rang. Mrs. Smith was morning "yard duty." She helped me go to the nurse's offices. I wished I could thank her. The nurse cheered me up with an ice pack. The nurse was my hero too. And my auntie and my mom.

My hero is my cousin because she saved me from falling into the deep side of the pool when I couldn't swim. Also my hero is my grandpa because he is a policeman. May hero is myself because I am very brave. My hero is my older cousin because she saved me from falling down the stairs.

My hero is my dad because he helps me a lot and he's the best dad. He helps me pitch a tent and catches me when I trip. You're the best dad!

My hero is a referee because he was calling the right calls on All Stars Soccer.

My heroes are my cousins because they love me and teach me things. My hero is my Dad because he helps me with my home work. My Mom is my hero too because she helps me read and write. My aunt is my hero too because she plays with me and is very special to me.

My hero is my daddy because he helps me, and he was in the navy.

My dad is my hero because sometimes he pulls me out of the road. Sometimes he keeps me out of the water when we go fishing. And sometimes he saves me from getting hurt.

My hero is my friend because he told me there was a car behind me.

My hero is my dad because when I fell down he caught me. It made me happy. Sometimes my dad saves me from the pool. Sometimes my dad saves me because when I fall off his shoulders. And sometimes he saves me from mean cats.

My hero is my grandpa because he was in the Navy and he was saving his partners. He was in a war.
