March, 2003:
MY CESAR CHAVEZ BEAR by a third grader from San Jose, California. My Cesar Chavez bear would be red with a black eagle to represent the flag he carried. It would also say "Huelga" on the back.
Did you know Cesar Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) in 1962? The NFWA's flag was a red background with a black eagle in a white circle in the center. Their movement for social change was called "La Causa." It means "The Cause."
Did you know "Viva La Causa" means "Long Live Our Cause," and "Huelga" means "Strike?"

February, 2003:
MY ROSA PARKS BEAR by Donna A. My hero is Rosa Parks. If I could make up a bear, I would choose Rosa Parks because of her courage while sitting on the bus. I would make the bear purple because she wore a purple outfit on that day. I would also add a purple hat and glasses. I would have a bus as her logo.
