December,
2001:
My
brother Raymond Nalpant. He is a New York City Police
Officer, who was hurt 1 1/2 years ago while on duty.
He had to retire early. However, he was in New York
City 2 hours after our Sept. 11th tragedy. He walked
across the 59th Street Bridge, went directly to
Cornell Hospital to volunteer (he's going to school
to become a nurse), and was then volunteering at
ground zero for 3 weeks. He lost many good friends
and did what ever he could to help the city in thoses
tragic weeks. He actually doesn't think he's a hero.
He says he's just doing his job to help man-womankind.
But you know what....He truly is my hero!!

"Rosa
Parks. She took a stand by staying seated. She was
an ordinary woman who in just a moment did an extraordinary
thing!"
Did you know
Rosa Parks boarded a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama,
on December 1, 1955? She did not give up her seat
to a white male, even though the law stated she
must do so. Parks was arrested and found guilty.
This led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted
381 days. One of the leaders of the boycott was
Martin Luther King, Jr. On November 13, 1956, the
U.S. Supreme Court ruled segregation on public buses
was illegal. On December 21, the bus boycott in
Montgomery ended. Read
about Rosa Parks.

My
Grandma is my hero. I love her very much. Every
Thanksgiving she invites my whole family -- and
I come from a big family -- to her house for a festive
Thanksgiving dinner. She makes turkey, ham, cranberry
sauce, potatoes, gravy, beans, yams, asparagus,
cheese, rolls, and a delicious home-baked pumpkin
pie. It's so fun to get together at least once a
year with my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents,
nieces, and nephews.

My
brothers and sisters are my heroes. I grew up in
a very big family, and I enjoyed the friendships
of all my brothers and sisters. They really made
it fun to be a kid, and even more fun to be an adult.
And I get to be an auntie to so many great nieces
and nephews. -- Thanks, Barbara

George
Washington is my hero because he was the first President.
Although he wanted to live a private life at his
home at Mount Vernon, he served his country well
when he was needed. He was the General of the Continental
Army during the American Revolution, he was the
President of Constitutional Convention, and he was
the first President of the United States. He was
a great man and my hero! -- Peg
from Virginia. Read
a book about George Washington.

ALL
Americans. All Americans are my heroes. In this
time of horrible tragedy, we have proven UNITED
WE STAND TOGETHER AS ONE NATION UNDER GOD.

The
Men and Women who responded to the terrorist attacks
on the World Trade Center. In doing their jobs they
willingly risked their own lives to try to save
others, again and again, with little rest, and,
now, with little hope. A nation admires you, honors
you, and prays for you. Please know that all our
thoughts are with you and the victims you are valiantly
trying to save. God Bless. -- Wendy Handshaw Power

Thomas
Edison
is my hero. I like him because he was very inquisitive
as a young boy, and he continued to ask questions
throughout his life. In fact, one of Edison's teachers
told him that he asked too many questions. Luckily,
that comment did not stop Edison from questioning
the world around him. I also ask a lot of questions.
And if anybody ever tells me I ask too many questions,
I'll take that as a compliment. Read
more about the times in which Alva lived.

"Christopher
Columbus is my hero because
he was an explorer. He had lots of adventures and
discovered new things. When I grow up I want to
be an explorer too. I enjoy going outside and playing
in the trees, bushes, dirt, and sand. When I get
a boat, I want to also explore the water, just like
Christopher Columbus."

"Alan
Shepard. He was the first
U.S. astronaut in space. His spacecraft -- Freedom
7 -- was fit for only one man so Shepard took this
historic flight all by himself. That's pretty interesting."

"Brian
Thomas Littrell...It all began approximately four
years ago when the strength, faith, and reassurance
that had been washed away from my existence re-entered
my life through the uplifting voice of a young man.
Not only was his angelic voice enough to lift me
from my sorrow, but the numerous tests of faith
this man has endured guided my heart down a path
of healing. Brian Thomas Littrell is a man of his
word and a true hero in my eyes..." Written
